R.U.R. Rossum’s Universal Robots An opera in three acts by Zdenek Blazek adapted by von Jan Jirasek. The libretto is based on Karel Capeks homonymus theatre play from 1921. Interaction scenario by Paweł Janicki. The project aims at the world premiere of the opera R.U.R. Rossum's Universal Robots at the National Theatre Brno. Media Archiv Prague will give a composition revision order to the Czech composer Jan Jirasek on the basis of the composition RUR from 1977 by Zdenek Blazek. R.U.R. deals with the takeover of world supremacy by robots. The play develops its vision on the background of the inhumane working conditions of the industrial period at the beginning of last century.The discovery of the "structural design of life" shall at first and mainly make man's life easier: The Rossum's Universal Robots company begin with the mass fabrication of working robots on an island. The intention to improve the robots' efficiency by giving them human like characteristics is very successful. The robots have bestowed on man a life full of leisure and free time and even have taken care of fighting their wars. In the course of the years, the robots develop an individual life and self consciousness independently from their creators, form alliances with each other and finally destroy their creators, the human beings. |
